Western Electric Candlestick Telephone Phone And Subset
This wonderful Western Electric Dial Candlestick Telephone is fully reconditioned and guaranteed to work. IF YOU WANT A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL WESTERN ELECTRIC DESK PHONE, THIS IS IT! All of the pieces were disassembled, cleaned, polished, thoroughly tested, and then reassembled after the new finish was applied. It was made in the 1920s for the Bell System. It is a model 50AL. The 50AL is the oldest type of Western Electric dial candlestick phones. It has the patent dates of SEPT 13 04, JAN 26 15, JAN 1 18, and MAY 7 18 on the side of the base.
The transmitter is original and says 223, PAT IN USA, JAN 14 1913 on the tag. It has the clear sounding 1930s capsule so people that you are talking to can hear you clearly. The original mouthpiece is the Western Electric type with the star in it. It is made of bakelite. The receiver is a 144 type that is made of hard rubber and is also original.
This phone is NOT A REPRODUCTION! It is the real thing. The only new parts are the number card on the dial, the quality brown felt on the bottom cover, and the nice brown cloth line cord . The receiver cord and the subset cord are nice originals. It has a nice new PROFESSIONALLY APPLIED baked on semi-gloss black finish like the original, that will hold up during years of use. These phones did not originally have glossy finishes which show up finger prints, chip, and wear easily.
The dial is an early WE #2AA that makes the wonderful clickity-clack sound when dialing. It says WESTERN ELECTRIC, PAT IN USA, AUG 13 12, AUG 24 15, DES MAY 7 18, SEPT 13 21, MADE IN USA on the front. This number 2AA dial is proper for a 50AL candlestick. The 534A subset (black box) is also original with the same semi-gloss black baked on finish. It contains the ringer, coil, and condenser. The subset can be placed on the wall, or under the desk, table, or anything else that the phone sits on. The subset is proper for this type of phone. A wooden extention ringer box is not proper and takes away from the antique value of the phone.
As mentioned before, this phone is fully functional and ready to use. Just plug it into any standard modular jack. To make a call, pick up the receiver, dial the number, and talk. To receive a call, pick up the receiver after hearing the old bell ring, and talk.
This is a great old telephone! Telephones like this, reconditioned and functional, have sold on eBay for well over $1,000. My reserve is less than half of that! I want you to be happy with your purchase, so ask questions before bidding. Buyer to pay for USPS priority shipping with delivery confirmation. I will pay the insurance cost for shipping to an USA address. Canadian buyers to pay actual shipping and insurance costs that will be determined after auction's end. If the shipping cost is lower than what you paid, I will refund the difference. If it is higher I pay for the difference. Please do not give me less than five stars for the cost of shipping. I can not control what USPS charges and you will not pay more than actual cost. If you do not like what USPS charges please do not bid. You must use PayPal for payment.
